In the competitive study, a structure elucidation of a new metabolite was performed. The data analysis could identify only one of the signals of the metabolite. The concentration levels of the metabolite were rather low and most of the signals could not be determined in the original samples. Therefore a special sample enrichement and separation and subsequent dedicated 2-D NMR experiments were necessary. The structure of this metabolite makes sense in terms of biochemical pathways and other significantly changed metabolites.
